Established 1875
The hotel at the corner of Alice and Adelaide Streets had a shaky start when it was built as The Young Australian in 1875.
The first owner declared himself insolvent when he could not pay the builders.
After a fire in 1889 the hotel was rebuilt as a two-storied brick structure, and was reopened as The Australian, a name that stayed for about 100 years.
It was more recently known as the Red Roo and now finally as
The Aussie Hotel Motel.
